Hi, I am Suzan Cauble-I teach art at Woodmont High School in Piedmont, SC. I have been teaching for 28.9 years, the last 11 years at Woodmont High. I have a MEd in Technology in Education.
I teach IB Art now and would like to see what AP Art is all about and if I could offer AP Art to my students not interested in IB Art.
I am Dayton Colie - I teach art at R.B. Stall High School (12 years) in North Charleston South Carolina. I am a NBCT, have a MMA (Media Arts), and make art actively as well in various media.
I teach all levels of art, with most of my course load focusing on the more advanced levels due to demand (we added another art teacher as well). We are trying to increase the number of our students taking AP courses, and the principal of my school asked if I was interested in getting AP certified. I've been wanting to do this for several years, and now seemed like an excellent time to do this.
I am Jennifer Fox - I teach art at Carolina High School, and serve as the Fine Arts Dept. Head. I've been teaching art for 19 years - I have a BA and BFA - and theatre for 12. The District has granted funding to establish AP arts classes in my school - I am thrilled to take on a new challenge and bring a new world to my students.
Hello. I’m Franklin Morgan and I teach art at Greenville Middle School, where I have been for eleven years. I have a BS in Art, (yes a BS… don’t ask), an Associates in Engineering Graphics, and a MAT-Art from USC. I worked in the private sector for fifteen years before acquiring the MAT and going into teaching. I hope that AP certification will make me a more desirable candidate if I pursue a high school teaching position. After eleven years in middle school I need a new challenge. I also hope that the class will invigorate me. Even if I don’t move on to high school, surely I will learn something I can use. I certainly expect to hear from the other teachers about what they would like to see coming from middle school, (and what they never want to see again). I’m looking forward to some adult contact. It’s been a long time since I have been in an art class, (or any place) where I can think on a higher level. On the practical side, the class is convenient… over and done in a month, (no four hour torment sessions after a hard day of student wrangling)… a subject I’m actually interested in… a price that can’t be beat… and, the gathering dark clouds of re-certification pushed back over the horizon. What’s not to love here!
Hi I am Holly Gibbs and I just completed my third year at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, SC. I saw the AP class as an opportunity to not only get started on my recertification points, but to begin building my own art program at my shcool. I have taught mostly Art I classes along with Crafts and Art History. I am looking forward to teaching ceramics next year, and hope that I will be able to add more advanced classes to my repertoire.
Hi My name is Tinashe Gwata also Known as Tina.I have taught at two schools in Spartanburg 7 this past year. I have just completed my second year in teaching. I have a Bachelors degree and an MAT from Lander University. I will be teaching at Spartan High next year so I think A.P certification would be helpful to have. I actually signed up for this class before I knew I was moving to the high school.
Hi. I am Anne Cimballa and I teach visual arts at the School of the Arts in Charleston. I've been there for a little over three years. Prior to that I taught studio classes to students on field trips at the Columbia Museum of Art as well as to home-schooled students. I have a BA in Studio Art from Cleveland State University and an MAT in ArtEd from USC Columbia. The students at my school have all be identified as gifted and talented. SOA is an arts magnet school. We currently have a teacher teaching AP Studio but I have seen an increase in AP enrollment over the last few years and I want to help strengthen our overall program. AP certification will allow me to confidently guide our students towards a stronger and more polished finished product.
I was asked to teach AP Art for the McCormick School District, and after a couple of meetings with the school, accepted the challenge. However, being out of the system after some ten years of teaching, i was not sure what to do. Neveretheless, my student's need for a teacher who could accept them , and meet them with open arms....would be the perfect opportunity for both them and I to really see what we were made of. Over the six months or so we have worked together, i am now enrolled in USC wonderful AP Program which has spruded an awakining inside of me to return to the classroom with a new take on art and teaching.
I am the art teacher at Pendleton High school, which is also the only high school in the district. I just concluded my third year of teaching, and I have taught AP each year. The first year, I had one student in AP, then 8 last year, and 11 this year - 3 drawing, 2 3D, and 6 2D. (The AP Art program is only 4 years old at PHS). My main interest is to get certified and second is to improve my program to its best.
