The photo on the right shows me adding a stain to the inside of the gourd.

The photo on the left shows how I added color to the spiral shapes.

Next I will weave pine needles around the top. The weaving is not my favorite part but it means I am almost finished!

  1. OK, they showed up backwards from what I posted. The right one was on the left. Oops!

  2. I really like this. It's primal, yet elegant. Taking a gourd, removing the top, incising it with heated things involves instruments - fire, gourd, hot thing to incise with - that could all be found in nature.

  3. Update on my gourd basket. (Sunday)
Yesterday I was almost finished. I grabbed the clear sealant spray can off the garage shelf and took it out to spray the gourd. I was talking to my husband while spraying. He noticed the gourd had turned white. Uh, the can of clear spray was white, duh. Someone had put a clear lid on the white spray, it was probably me. Anyway the gourd was ruined, no amount of cleaning or trying to cover up could get that off without issues. I started over with a new gourd. I will post pictures when finished. So frustrating! I can feel my students pain when a pot blows up in the kiln or someone spills something on a watercolor.
    Back to it....
